London: A lesbian sex scene helped make ballet flick Black Swan the most complained-about film. The erotically charged thriller, rated 15 in the UK, generated 40 complaints from audiences.
Some film-goers "had expected to see a film about ballet" and were upset at what they saw as "pornographic" content, the British Board of Film Classification revealed.
According to the Sun.co.uk report, last month film-goers told how the steamy encounter between Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis, who played rival ballerinas, was voted the sexiest movie moment in a poll of film fans.
Portman won a Best Actress Oscar for her portrayal of a dancer's mental breakdown while preparing for the starring role in Swan Lake.
The BBFC, which sets age-ratings, said the lesbian sex scene was what ruffled people's feathers the most.
A report said: "While the scene is visually discreet, narratively justified and within the 15 guidelines criteria, some correspondents felt it was pornographic in nature.
"That it was a sex scene between two women was an aggravating factor for some who argued that portrayals of homosexual activity should either be restricted to the 18 category, or not shown at all.
"The high number of complaints for Black Swan demonstrates the disconnect that sometimes occurs between a viewer's expectations of a film and its actual content."
BBFC director David Cooke said the 40 complaints for Black Swan constituted a "very small number".
This year's release The Woman in Black has already received around 120 objections to its 12A rating, he said.Three other 12A-rated films also generated fury in 2011.
Hanna, starring Saoirse Ronan as a teenage assassin, got 29 complaints, with some viewers finding the film's violence "sadistic and gratuitous".
Next with 16 complaints was The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1. Most complaints were about an emergency Caesarean section performed on heroine Bella "which some viewers found gory and distressing", the censor said.
The film Sucker Punch received 15 complaints for its perceived sexual suggestiveness and the level of threat aimed at the female characters.
Two movies — The Human Centipede II and The Bunny Game — were refused 18 certificates "on account of their depictions of extreme violence against women", the BBFC said.
