As Lady Mary Crawley in Downton Abbey, Michelle Dockery is used to wearing a corset. But its unlikely we'll see the eldest Crawley daughter wearing this get-up in the hallowed halls of Downton Abbey any time soon.
According to the Daily Mail report, the actress, 30, looked like she was about to spill out of her corset in a Gothic-themed shoot for the new issue of LOVE magazine.
In the accompanying interview, she said had become very fond of Lady Mary over the past two series and the upcoming third. She told the mag: 'Like all characters that you play you feel very protective of them. I’m very fond of Lady Mary. I care about her very much. Of course I want her to find happiness.
‘The tension between Edith and Mary I don’t really get because my sisters were not vicious to each other like they’ve been. But it was always really fun to play.'
Michelle joined her on-screen sisters Jessica Brown Findlay and Laura Carmichael – who play Sybil, and Edith in the ITV drama – underwent the gothic-inspired transformation for a photo shoot with fashion bible LOVE.
Styled by the magazine’s editor-in-chief Katie Grand, it sees Lady Sybil don a plunging corset, with flowers in her messy hair.
Speaking about her character, she said: 'I think you’re a bit of a knob if you don’t like Lady Sybil. She’s actually taken on the class system. She does everything because her heart tells her to. I think that’s a pretty wonderful quality in somebody. She’s a sweetheart really. I love her.
'We’re all just mental. It’s too much fun... I couldn’t imagine three female actresses getting on better... We’re all around a similar age, playing sisters, so it could’ve been a nightmare... It’s just so not that. They’re both so brilliant at what they do I actually love them.'
The usually ‘plain’ Lady Edith is wearing little more than a piece of netting, and in another photo reclines on a sofa in a flamboyant gown as she smokes a cigarette.
Each of the actresses will adorn the cover of separate issues of the magazine’s autumn/winter edition. LOVE 8 ‘A Costume Drama’ Autumn/Winter 2012 is on sale from Monday, July 30.
