Want to explore myself through acting skills: Sai Tamhankar Panaji: Marathi film industry’s most sought after actress Sai Tamhankar says she doesn't want to restrict herself as an artiste and rather intends to explore her various personas through acting.

"I want to do quality work and explore myself as a person when I am acting," Sai, 28, said on the sidelines of press preview of her latest Marathi film 'Guru Pournima'.

The actress, whose next Hindi film 'Hunter' by Anurag Basu, is expected to release in January next year, says she would always prefer doing Marathi films as it is her mother tongue.

"Yes. I will be working for more Marathi films. If I get interesting roles in Hindi I will also do them. I am looking at performance oriented roles whether it is in Bengali, Tamil, English or Hindi. I don't mind going anywhere and everywhere but preference would be for Marathi as it is my mother tongue," said the actress who has also acted in Hindi films like 'Ghajini' and Subhash Ghai's 'Black and White'.

"My image was (that of) bold and beautiful, then it went to 'she can act' and now she is a romantic heroine. I am not really bothered about what I am portrayed as," she said.

The actress' next Marathi movie 'Por Bazaar', based on life of five youngsters, will be premiered next month. She has also played a major role in 'Pyaar Vali Love Story' (Marathi film) which is expected to hit the screens next month.

Sai feels that the most difficult role she ever played was in Marathi movie 'Pune 52' (in 2012), where she starred alongside Nikhil Kulkarni and Sonali Kulkarni.

"I could tell you the most difficult role that I played was in 'Pune 52'. It was the most troublesome and it emotionally squeezed me. It was very difficult," she said about the film considered as neo-noir in Marathi cinema.

"I like troubling myself sometimes, probably when you squeeze your emotions then you find another side of yours. It is different, meaningful and never done before roles which appeal to me," she added.
