India - Pakistan trades heavy mortar and gun fire along the international border Samba: India and Pakistan traded heavy mortar and gun fire along the international border with Pakistani troops targeting 60 outposts amd 90 villagers overnight in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts, leaving eight persons, including three BSF jawans, injured.

Pakistan Rangers shelled almost the entire 192-km border during the night. Nearly 30,000 people have been displaced following one of the worst violations of the 2003 ceasefire by Pakistan which has left eight people dead and 80 others, including nine security men, injured since October 1.

"Pakistani Rangers continued with unprovoked mortar shelling and heavy automatic weapon firing on BSF posts all along International Border (IB) since 2045 hours last night", a BSF spokesman said today.

"Almost the whole stretch of International Border in Samba, Hiranagar, Ramgarh, Arnia, R S Pura, Kanachak and Pargwal (Sub-sectors) was affected in the firing," he said.

"About 60 BSF border outposts were affected by the fire from Pakistan side," the spokesman said, adding BSF troops retaliated in a "calibrated manner". Firing exchanges were continuing till this morning in Pargwal, Kanachak, Arnia and Samba sub-sectors.

"I want to assure the people that we will not let down our country," he said, a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted that "everything will be fine soon" on Pakistan border.

"The Prime Minister is keeping a close eye on the situation. He does not need to speak as our Army and BSF personnel are giving a befitting response and we are satisfied with it," Singh said amid questions being raised by the Opposition on government's reponse to the ceasefire violations by Pakistan.

Pakistani forces resorted to shelling and firing along the international border in Jammu and Kashmir tonight. There were three fresh violation of ceasefire as Pakistani forces resorted to mortar shelling and firing in the sub sectors of Kanachak and Pargwal in Jammu district and Hiranagar in Kathua district along the international border (IB) on Wednesday night.

In the last 24 hours, Pakistani Rangers targeted 50 border outposts (BoPs) and 35 hamlets along the 192-km boundary killing 2 women and injuring 15 others, including three BSF jawans. Eight people have been killed and 75 others injured in the shelling and firing along LoC and IB in Jammu and Poonch districts by Pakistan for over a week this month.

A day ago, extending the ceasefire violations to new areas, Pakistan Rangers shelled border outposts (BoPs) and villages in Samba and Kathua along with Jammu during the night and the firing was continuing till this morning.

A woman was killed in the shelling in Jaladi village in Samba while 11 people, including three BSF personnel, were injured, a BSF spokespersons said today. So far seven persons have been killed and nearly 70 injured in the escalation since October 1 with over 16,000 people migrating to safer areas in these districts.

Over 15,000 people have migrated from border hamlets along IB in Jammu to safer places due to the firing and shelling.

There have been over two dozen ceasefire violations along Indo-Pak border in Jammu and Kashmir since October one. A total of 14 people including 4 security personal were injured in Pak firing and shelling on Tuesday.

On Monday, Pakistani troops violated ceasefire by resorting to heavy firing and shelling in Arnia belt along IB in Jammu in which 5 people were killed and 34 others were injured. On October 3, Pakistani troops and rangers violated ceasefire in Gulamarg sector of Kashmir Valley and in Poonch and Jammu sectors in which a girl was killed and six persons were injured.
