Masarat Alam's release: Mend your ways or will end alliance, BJP warns PDP Srinagar: As the controversy over the release of separatist leader Masarat Alam continues to rage, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has warned its alliance partner in Jammu and Kashmir - Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) - to mend its ways, reports said on Wednesday.

Reports claim that BJP has warned J&K Chief Minister and PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to either mend ways or the alliance will be called off.

The reports came a day after BJP president Amit Shah met party leader and J&K Deputy CM Nirmal Singh. It is being learnt that Shah told Singh to send a stern message to Sayeed and PDP.

According to highly-placed party sources, the BJP central leadership has conveyed to the PDP top brass that it will not allow any further deviation from the common minimum programme set by the two parties after days of mutual discussions.

"BJP's central leadership has given an ultimatum to the PDP top brass that it will not tolerate any further compromise on national security with the unilateral release of Masarat Alam,” the sources said.

They said the BJP top brass is angry over Masarat's "unilateral" release by PDP without consultations with BJP and warned that it will not allow any more such releases of separatists or militants.

The release of the mastermind behind the 2008-10 stone-pelting agitation in Srinagar has created a strain among the state's ruling alliance partners BJP and PDP with the saffron virtually threatening to have a rethink on the tie-up.

Sayeed on Tuesday assured Home Minister Rajnath Singh that no separatist would be released in future without taking the BJP into confidence.

Sources in the PDP said Sayeed spoke to Rajnath Singh on the phone and assured him that no separatist leader would be released from custody by the state government without taking the PDP's alliance partner, the Bharatiya Janata Party, into confidence.
