IPL 8 opening ceremony; 4 reasons why it was dull and boring

Kolkata: The opening ceremony of the eighth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at Salt Lake stadium was the most dull and boring opening ceremony in the history of IPL. Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan hosted the ceremony and he failed to live up to the expectations of the organisers as he fumbled and goofed up his speech.

Here we look at the biggest talking points from the IPL 2015 opening ceremony:

- Saif Ali Khan should never host a cricket event ever again

Saif has hosted many Bollywood functions but cricket is surely not his cup of tea. Saif was receiving live feeds on the mic about the proceedings and that was clearly visible on his face when at times, he had no idea what to say or and what not to. Saif looked completely out of place and his entire stint was full of awkward pauses.

- Too much focus on Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma

A major part of the opening ceremony was devoted to the love-birds, Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma. While Anushka was performing on the stage, the camera caught hold of the dashing Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain to provide the crowd with a blush or a stare.

- Confused Rohit Sharma

When Mumbai Indians’ skipper Rohit Sharma was called upon the dias, it turned out be a very funny moment as he had no idea where to go. Rohit kept wandering and nearly slipped into the light fittings, bearing his team’s emblem and it turned out to be inadvertently funny.

- It was a BIG SHOW. But who was the show stopper?

The likes of Shahid Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Anushka Sharma performed at the opening ceremony, but there was nothing spectacular about their performances. Shahid Kapoor and Hrithik Roshan gave decent performances but there were no sparkling performances and thus the gala event, sadly, was an uninteresting and and inadvertently funny affair.
