Violence in Shamli: Tensions grow in western Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow: A day after Muslims in Shamli in Uttar Pradesh clashed with police over the assault of Tablighi Jamaat members; the western Uttar Pradesh is once again suffering turbulences.
The state police after the violence booked a case against five persons for the alleged attack which injured sixteen policemen as the protest turned violent.
Angry protesters from Kandhla area of Shamli district blocked the rail track on Saturday and threw stones at trains, following which the Railway police lathi-charged.
After the violence, a meeting has been arranged for May 14 in Agra to force the victims of the conversion of December 8, 2014, to undergo fresh nikah with their wives to protect the sanctity of their marriages.
Following the incident, the social media users, led by ideologically affiliated to the right of centre, alleged that Muslims misbehaved Hindu passengers at the railway station tagging the incident as ‘another Godhra’
