Low intensity bomb blast on Kolkata local train, 17 injured Kolkata: Seventeen people were injured early Tuesday when a low intensity blast exploded in a coach of Sealdah-Krishnanagar local train near Titagarh station in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district.

The unfortunate incident happened at around 4:00 am.

Reports say that two groups travelling in the local train clashed and hurled bombs at each other.

The blast took place in the fifth compartment from the engine of the local train under Eastern Railway's Sealdah Main section.

The injured have been admitted to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

According to RN Mahapatra, CPRO Eastern Railway, the train left Sealdah station at 03:20 am and reached Titagarh station at 03:55 am. The blast took place just after a person boarded the train at Titagarh station.

Security has been beefed up to ensure passenger safety, he said, adding that the incident appeared to be the outcome of group rivalry.

Train services along the Sealdah Main Section was normal.

The railway police are investigating the incident which appeared to be a crude bomb blast.

Meanwhile, reacting to the incident Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Siddharth Nath Singh questioned the Trinamool Congress government's intentions saying that no case in Bengal is being handled honestly.

While demanding a thorough probe into the incident, the BJP national secretary and West Bengal in-charge said, "How can two rival groups sit in the train early morning and decide to throw bombs at each other."
