Vyapam scam: CBI files murder case in medical student Namrata Damor's death Bhopal: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday registered a case of murder against unknown persons for the death of medical student Namrata Damor in its investigation of the multi-layered Vyapam scam in Madhya Pradesh.

Damor, 20, was found dead under mysterious circumstances near the railway track in Ujjain on January 7, 2012, more than a year after she cracked the pre-medical test (PMT) conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) or Vyapam. A student of MGM Medical College in Indore, her body was found days after she had left her hostel.

The first post mortem conducted by a panel of doctors in Ujjain suggested that she died of asphyxiation and was murdered. However, a second opinion was sought and the Bhopal-based Medico Legal Institute (MLI), a state government body, carried out another post mortem and came up with a contradictory report saying Damor had committed suicide and the case was closed.

All along, her family and whistleblowers have raised suspicion over the manner in which the case was closed and suspected that Damor was killed.

On Friday, the CBI registered a case under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against unidentified persons. Now, her death would be treated as a murder and would be investigated by the central probe agency.

Two other cases have also been registered in connection with the scam over the irregularities in the pre-medical test (PMT) in 2010.

Earlier, the CBI had registered five cases and now the total number of cases registered by the probe agency in connection with the scam has gone up to eight.
