Sonia, Rahul to hold silent protest, opposition refuses to relent over Lalit Modi, Vyapam scam New Delhi: Congress President Sonia Gandhi along with senior Congress legislators announced to hold silent protest at the Gandhi statue in the Parliament on Wednesday.

Party’s vice president Rahul Gandhi is also expected to join the agitation. The protest is staged against the inaction adopted by the government in the sinister Vyapam scam.

Congress has demanded the immediate ouster of Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan.

Congress members will reportedly wear black bands to express grief over the mysterious death of dozens of people who were linked to the multi-crore job and exam scam.

The party has demanded the resignation of chief minister Chauhan for a fair probe to take place.

Congress leader Anand Sharma said, “When allegations were leveled against our leaders, we told them to step down. Pawan Kumar Bansal resigned as Railway minister, Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan resigned when he was accused in Adarsh scam. We expect the same from BJP. This the differnce between them and UPA”

Earlier in the day, Rajya Sabha MP, Anand Sharma questioned the government in the upper house over External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj alleged links with fugitive Lalit Modi.

Following an uproar created over the Lalit Modi issue, the house had to be adjourned.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has accused the Congress of deliberately disrupting the proceedings of the house.

“Our government wants to discuss. But they do not want to indulge in a systematic debate. It is unfortunate that precious time of the Monsoon session is wasted due to non-issues. Important legislations are held up which needs to be discussed,” he added.

While Congress has made it clear that it will not allow Parliament to function unless BJP leaders facing allegations quit, the government has asserted that there will be no resignations and that it will not give in to any ultimatum.
