After paying homage to APJ Abdul Kalam, Parliament adjourned for two days

New Delhi: "Don't declare holiday on my death, instead work an extra day if you love me," said former president Dr Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, who symbolised hard work, passion, dedication and determination, but a day after his death Parliamentarians refused to work.

Both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha was adjourned for two days after paying homage to the "Missile Man of India'.

A man who believed, "Nation is above any individual any organisation any party," used to work year around and took only two offs- one on his father's death and the second on his mother's. He believed, "There is no substitute for hard work with honesty." But his wish certainly does not find much audience among the MPs.

The 83-year-old young scientist breath while delivering the lecture at Indian Institute of Management at Shillong, Meghalaya on Monday evening.

The only bachelor president of India was also disturbed over the frequent adjournments of Parliament and was planning to ask students for a solution over it.

Srijan Pal Singh, who travelled with Kalam for the event at IIM-Shillong, said, "For the past two days, Dr Kalam was worried that time and again Parliament, the supreme institution of democracy, was dysfunctional.

He said, “I have seen two different governments in my tenure. I have seen more after that. This disruption just keeps happening. It is not right. I really need to find out a way to ensure that Parliament works on developmental politics.” He then asked me to prepare a surprise assignment question for the students at IIM Shillong, which he would give them only at the end of the lecture. He wanted to them to suggest three innovative ways to make the Parliament more productive and vibrant."

One of his famous quotes was, "Those who cannot work with their hearts achieve but a hollow, half-hearted success that breeds bitterness all around."

In fact the perfect homage to Kalam by Parliamentarians would have been a working day at Parliament with full strength.
