Champion of 'Mann ki Baat' retreats to 'maun-vrat' on scandals: Sonia Gandhi New Delhi: Hours ahead of the all-party meet called by the government in a last-ditch attempt to break the Parliament logjam, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on Monday lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his silence, saying that the champion of 'mann ki baat' retreats to 'maun vrat' whenever there is a scandal involving his colleagues.

"He has been conspicuous by his deafening silence on blatant transgressions by his EAM and two of his CMs," said Gandhi at the meeting of Congress parliamentary party.

She said the PM has turned out to be a master repackager, a skillful salesman, a sharp headline grabber and a clever news manager.

Gandhi refused to be drawn into any discussion and said her party will continue to protest unless external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh chief ministers Vasundhara Raje and Shivraj Singh Chouhan do not step down.

"There will be no productive discussions and no meaningful proceedings as long as those responsible for gross wrong-doings remain in office," she added.

The government has convened an all-party meeting  to discuss ways to end the stalemate in Parliament in an attempt to save the rest of the monsoon session and push its key reforms.

Before that, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met senior ministers in Parliament to discuss strategy and likelihood of a statement by the PM in the House to break the logjam, reports said.

The Congress chief also accused the government of using 'numerical strength as a source of arrogance rather than responsibility' and said it is trying to substitute investigation by mere discussion.

"We are raising a very important issue with strong evidence, but the government is unwilling to take action in this regard," she said at the meeting.

"Yesterday's agitators in both the Houses have suddenly become today's champions of debate and discussion," she added.

"Today, we have to listen to sermons on parliamentary behaviour from those who not only defended but also advocated disruption as a legitimate tactic when they were in opposition."
