Last rites of Suvra Mukherjee performed, Prez at work, send greetings to Hungary, pays floral tributes to Dr Sharma New Delhi: Friends and family, besides top dignitaries today bid farewell to President Pranab Mukherjee's wife Suvra whose mortal remains were consgined to flames here.

But workaholic President has not been taken rest and Pranab Mukherjee has extended his greetings and felicitations to the Government and people of the Republic of Hungary on the eve of their National Day,August 20, 2015.

The body was taken to the Lodhi Road electric crematorium from 13, Talkatora Road, the residence of Abhijeet Mukherjee, the President's son, where it was kept to enable people to pay their last respect.

Suvra, 74, breathed her last at Army Research and Referral Hospital here yesterday. The ashes will be taken by the family to Haridwar this afternoon.

Among those present at the cremation ground were Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, several other Union ministers, Congress President Sonia Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, her Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal and BJP leader L K Advani.

Suvra was admitted to the hospital on August 7 after she complained of breathlessness and discomfort. Since then she was in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Besides her husband, Suvra leaves behind two sons Abhijit, a Congress MP, and Indrajit and daughter Sharmistha.

Meanwhile, In his message to His Excellency Dr. Janos Ader, the President of the Republic of Hungary, the President has said, “On behalf of Government, the people of India and on my own behalf, I extend my warm greetings and best wishes to you and to the people of Hungary on the occasion of your National day.

Relations between India and Hungary are based on mutual trust, shared values and cultural affinity.  Our age-old ties of culture and history have cemented the relationship between our two countries.  I believe that this relationship would be further strengthened in the coming years to the benefit of both our countries.

Excellency, I take this opportunity to convey my best wishes for your personal health and well being as well as for the progress and prosperity of the friendly people of Hungary.”

President Pranab Mukherjee also paid floral tributes to Dr. Shanker Dayal Sharma, former President of India on occasion of his birth anniversary at Rashtrapati Bhavan at 1230 hrs. today.
