India will never fire the first bullet along border, Rajnath tells Pak Rangers New Delhi: Amid growing tensions along the border and LoC, India on Friday told Pakistan that it will not fire the first bullet.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh is reported to have told a visiting delegation of Pakistan Rangers on Friday that “the first bullet will never be fired from the Indian side”.

The Pakistan Rangers delegation called on the Indian Home Minister after holding director general-level talks with the Border Security Force (BSF).

Major General Umar Farooq Burki, DG of Pakistan Rangers, is reported to have told Rajnath during the meeting that since he is not a part of the government, he cannot give any assurance on the border firing issue.

However, sources said, it was decided that during the meeting that communication through phone and emails will be maintained.

The Home Minister also stressed on the need for unity between India and Pakistan to control terrorism and urged the Rangers to ensure that terrorists did not infiltrate into India from their territory.

On Thursday, the talks between the delegations of the BSF and pakistan Rangers concluded on a positive note with both sides agreeing to take steps to ensure peace on the border.

The Indian side to the talks, which mainly focussed on ceasefire violations, was led by BSF DG DK Pathak.

An accord will be signed between the two sides on Saturday, the last day of the talks.

The last BSF-Pakistan Rangers meeting was held on December 24-28, 2013 in Lahore.
