Veteran actor Saeed Jaffrey passes away New Delhi: Veteran actor Saeed Jaffrey passed away at the age of 86. Sayyed gave some of the most memorable movies to Hindi cinema during his lifetime.

His eloquence in dialogues and passion for acting made him a favourite of many.

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi paid his condolences on social media platform Twitter.

Saeed Jaffrey was a multifaceted actor whose flair & versatility will always be remembered. Deepest condolences on his passing away: PM

He will always be remembered for his roles in 'Ram Teri Ganga Maili', 'Dil', 'Shatranj Ke Khiladi' and 'Ajooba'.

Born in Malerkotla, Punjab, Saeed will forever be alive in the hearts of his fans.

Saeed Jaffry was suffering from age-related ailments.

He was married to co-actress and travel writer Mehrunima (Madhur Jaffrey), but they parted ways in 1965. Together they have three daughters Meera, Zia and Sakina – who is also an actress.

Prime Minister’s Office also tweeted about Saeed Jaffrey’s demise.

Director Shekhar Kapur mourned the actor’s death. He tweeted:

Born in Punjab, Saeed Jaffrey started his career as an actor in theatre. As an actor, he worked with internationally renowned acting luminaries like Sean Connery, Michael Caine (The Man Who Would Be King), and Pierce Brosnan (The Deceivers) among others and world class directors like Satyajit Ray (Shatranj Ke Khiladi) and Richard Attenborough (Gandhi).  He was also known for his work in television.

His notable works in Bollywood include ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili, Henna, Chashme-Baddoor, Judaai, Dil, Ajooba’. Saeed Jaffrey was the first Indian to receive the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his contributions to drama.
