Usher in Christmas, New Year by tickling your tastebuds Kolkata's Bollywood Disco Carnival Kolkata: Gorge on machli dance, or Jimmy Jimmy chingri; let your sweet tooth dip into delicious desserts like le halwa le; or get into the party mood with mocktails like gulaboo and baby doll as a landmark Kolkata fine dining hub lines up a mouth-watering spread themed on Bollywood and its ever popular disco numbers this festive season.

Ushering in Christmas and New year in a unique way, Barbeque Nation-Kolkata has organised a "Bollywood Disco Carnival" food festival at its outlets at fashionable Park Street and posh Salt Lake.

The festival, that began on December 18, would continue to beckon gourmands into the New Year before concluding on January 3, 2016.

The niche eatery, that serves multi-cuisine dishes ranging from the Mediterranean, American, Oriental, Asian and the Indian sub-continent, also roped in Disco King Bappi Lahiri for the festival inauguration at the Park Street outlet.

"We have 61 outlets all over India and we arrange this kind of festival with a special theme every time," said the restaurant chain's Chief Operating Officer, Joju Po.

Sporting his characteristic gold chains and sunglasses, Bappi, in his inimitable style, declared that he has also composed a "Disco Barbeque" song that he crooned at the inauguration.

Amid funny cut-outs of Bollywood greats like Amitabh Bachchan and Rajnikanth, and disco lights creating a psychedelic visual effect, foodies can look forward to some good time spent at the eatery which simulates a discotheque.

A giant disco ball-shaped entrance decorated with strobe lights welcome customers, who are transported back into the disco age by the vibrant interiors decorated with glow-in-the-dark headbands and colourful LED dance floors.

On the platter are disco-inspired dishes such as machli dance, a succulent oriental Schezwan fish; Jimmy Jimmy chingri, a divine combination of garlic and prawns; and disco khisko - sweet and sour pineapple soaked in Indian spices.

For dessert, one can dig into le halwa Le - Moong Dal Halwa; emotional atyachaar - marble cheese cake and more.

A live counter hands out lip-smacking zubi zubi guchi mushrooms; exotica de guru - exotic meats like duck, turkey and quail with scrumptious accompanying sauces; and zindagi na milegi dobara (remember the Bollywood flick)- chocolate paan.

Equally varied is the beverage menu. Some of the specially created mocktails include gulaboo, a Bollywood favourite with litchi, pineapple, Sprite, blue curacao and lime. Also, one can savour baby doll - tangy and sweet concoction of mango, pineapple, grenadine, basil, lime and Sprite.

Disco themed cocktails include Om Shanti Om Martini - a concoction of brandy, strawberry, orange, angostura and basil, Chammak Challo - dance to the tune of this shot laced with vodka, mango, lime, lives Tabasco Bell Pepper, and Deewani Mastani, a royal combination of a Gin-Chocolate-Lime-Mint.

"Kolkata is the City of Joy and Park Street becomes the London of Kolkata, especially during Christmas, because of the lights and celebrations. So this is the perfect time to come to enjoy food here," said Lahiri.
