Celebrities mourn, Women activists call for swift action on Pratyusha Banerjee death Mumbai: Voicing concern over the alleged suicide of television actor Pratyusha Banerjee, women activists on Saturday called for stringent police action and investigation into the matter.

Popularly known as Anandi, her character from the television show 'Balika Vadhu', actress Pratyusha Banerjee's untimely death has left everyone in Bollywood and the TV industry in shock.

"It's a very sad news. She was a well-known actor. Investigation must reveal the reason behind her death. I hope there is no gory angle to this incident. This will continue till the judiciary is strict and fast and this is not going to stop till the police start taking strict action. I am sure this is not going to be the last incident," women activist Shamina Shafiq told ANI.

Former Delhi Commission for Women chief Barkha Shukla Singh said the suicide of Pratyusha should be investigated as committing suicide is not easy and added that there must be something behind it. "Society and those who pressurise women are behind such suicide cases,"she added.

Personalities like Karan Johar, Arbaaz Khan, Simi Garewal and Karishma Tanna have mourned the death of the 24-year-old actress, who allegedly committed suicide here on Friday. Pratyusha hanged herself from a fan at her Kandivali residence but was detected and taken to the Kokilaben Ambani Hospital where she succumbed. Pratyusha Banerjee, who rose to fame with her portrayal of Anandi in 'Balika Vadhu,' was found hanging at her home in Mumbai on Friday. She was declared dead when brought to the Kokilaben Hospital in Andheri by her former boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh.

Though the reason for this drastic step is unknown, there is a buzz that the 24-year-old actress was suffering from heartache over a failed love affair with Rahul.
