Tit for tat: Kejriwal slams Modi government for overexpenditure on advertisements New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government for overexpenditure on advertisements marking the completion of the central government’s two year in office.

“Modi government spend on ads for just one event 2 year bash? Sources- more than Rs.1,000 crore,” Kejriwal tweeted.

“All Delhi government departments total spend less than Rs.150 crore for full year,” he said in another tweet.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief has been on the loggerheads with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the issue of overexpenditure on the advertisements.

The AAP government had also faced flak from the opposition parties over printing advertisements during the second phase of the Delhi government’s odd-even scheme in the national capital between April 15 to 30.

Earlier in 2015, the BJP has gone a step ahead and put up a series of hoardings across the city questioning the Delhi Government`s expenditure on its advertisement campaign.

The hoarding questions the rationale behind Aam Aadmi Party government's Rs 526 crore expenditure on its advertisement, many of which have targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In the posters, BJP has claimed that the AAP government could have utilised the money for installing five lakh CCTV cameras or constructing 200 new schools and 50 new colleges in the capital.

The posters gives suggestions that with Rs 526 crore, five lakh CCTV cameras could be installed, 200 new schools and 50 new colleges could be opened, 200 new buses and safe drinking water could be provided in 1000 colonies.

The last line of posters also claims that one year pension could be given to 5 lakh families and employment to one lakh youths.

Last month, the AAP government had put up posters requesting the Prime Minister to allow the city dispensation to work.

Meanwhile, the Congress has also jumped in to corner the AAP.

Criticising the Kejriwal Government, Congress leader JP Agarwal said the former was not spending money to fulfil the promises made to people of the city before elections

"There is no scope for lying in the democracy. The money which should have been spent for betterment of Delhi is not being spent. They are not spending it to fulfil their promises. They had promised about installing CCTV cameras, women safety, home guards, they had talked about development of Delhi, but nothing of that sort is visible," Agarwal told ANI.

Earlier, AAP had installed hoardings on roadsides in the national capital, asking PM Modi Narendra Modi not to intervene in its functioning.

"Pradhanmantri sir, please! Delhi sarkar ko kam karne dijiye. Dilli sarkar theek kam kar rahi hai. (Prime Minister sir, please let the Delhi government work. The Delhi government is working fine)," say the newly installed hoardings in the capital.

The Delhi government has drawn flak from the opposition parties for splurging money on advertisements. In its maiden budget presented last month, the Delhi government earmarked Rs 526 crore for advertorials. The allocation last fiscal was Rs 20 crore.
