Eid-ul-Fitr holiday in Delhi on Thursday, in Kargil on Wednesday New Delhi: All central government offices here will remain closed on Thursday, instead of Wednesday, on account of Eid-ul-Fitr, it was announced on Tuesday.

A government communique said the announcement was valid for Delhi and New Delhi areas.

Accordingly, it has been decided to shift the holiday to 7 July, in place of 6 July, as notified earlier, for all central government administrative offices at Delhi or New Delhi, an order issued by Department of Personnel of Training (DoPT) said Tuesday.

Eid in Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) will be celebrated on July 7. Moon has not been sighted in any part of Uttar Pradesh.

Jama Masjid Delhi declares that Eid-ul-Fitr would be celebrated on July 7. No moon has been sighted in Delhi-NCR region.

Eid to be celebrated in Kargil (Jammu and Kashmir) tomorrow, moon sighted. Eid-ul-Fitr would also be observed in the region of Muzaffarabad (PoK). No details yet about other parts of Kashmir.

Hilal Committee has begun coordinating with their representatives across the nation. Search for moon has been initiated across the nation.

As of now, no official confirmation has been received. Hilal Committee is expected to make the final announcement shortly.

For offices outside Delhi, the employees coordination committee or head of offices (where such committees are not functioning) can decide the date depending upon the decision of the state government concerned, it said.

Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated on the 1st of Shawwal, the 10th month of Islamic calendar. It is considered to be the most important festival among the Muslims. It is one of the occasions which highlight the brighter side of Islam.
