BJP tries to decode contradictory signal from Sidhus

New delhi:With Navjot Sidhu’s entry to AAP still uncertain on one hand, and his wife Navjot Kaur taking part in BJPs ‘Tiranga Yatra’ wholeheartedly on the other, the state unit of BJP is trying to decipher the “contradictory signals” from the Sidhu couple.

While certain senior party officials maintain that there is no chance of Sidhu returning to the BJP fold in case his attempts to join AAP come a cropper, there are others within the party who say that he has deliberately maintained ambiguity to facilitate his return, if required.

The state president of the party and Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Vijay Sampla has, on more than one occasion, clarified that he has not received any resignation from Navjot Sidhu although he has resigned from the Rajya Sabha.

“The doors are closed for Sidhu in BJP and if he is left with limited options after refusal of his terms by AAP then it is he who is to be blamed,” maintained a party functionary not willing to be named. He also informed that there were verbal instructions from the party high command that there should not be any public comments about Sidhu or his political moves till the time there is some finality of his actions. “There are unofficial orders about speaking out about Sidhu,” BJP leaders confirmed.

While the former Amritsar MP’s attempts to join AAP are well known, it is the actions of his wife that are puzzling the party. While Navjot Kaur has been critical of her own party as well as the alliance with SAD, she has been very active in party functions.

Navjot Kaur left the party functionaries in Amritsar surprised when she enthusiastically supported the ‘Tiranga Yatra’ of the party as part of the Independence Day functions of BJP. She had also been among the first leaders of the party to have arrived in Jalandhar to enquire about the well being of Brig Jagdish Gagneja, Deputy Chief of RSS in Punjab, after he had been shot and left seriously injured.

“It is becoming difficult to decode the message that she is trying to send by being critical of the party on one hand and making statements that she would follow her husband in whichever political outfit he joins and also trying to appear to be loyal to the party by carrying out her duties in official functions,” said a state BJP leader.
“This will not work and will eventually prove detrimental to them,” said a leader
