Pakistan 'agents of terror', Indian PM Narendra Modi tells G20 Hangzhou: In remarks targeted at Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that 'one single nation' was spreading 'agents of terror' in South Asia.

"Terrorist is a terrorist. One single nation in South Asia is spreading agents of terror in our region," the Prime Minister was quoted as saying at the G20 Summit here, by External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup.

India expects the world community to “speak and act in unity and to respond with urgency to fight” terror, Modi said. “Those who sponsor and support terrorism must be isolated and sanctioned, not rewarded,” he said.

He added, “India has a policy of zero tolerance to terrorism because anything less than that is not enough. For us, a terrorist is a terrorist.”

The remarks came a day after Modi had sought to build international opinion on countering terrorism and isolating Pakistan during his meetings with leaders such as Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

Modi told the leaders terrorism is the “central challenge” facing the world, which “is going to face a huge, huge problem in the coming weeks and months” if the issue is not tackled now.

Talking about G20 members on Monday, Modi said India “appreciates the G20 initiative on combating financing of terrorism”.

Modi also brought up terrorism during a bilateral meeting with his British counterpart Theresa May and said the two sides should work together to tackle it.

“Modi also spoke about challenge of terrorism, which he said is the biggest threat to the world and knows no boundaries. He alluded to May’s previous stint as home secretary and said she was well aware of the dangers of terrorism,” external affairs ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup told reporters on Monday afternoon.

“In this context, they discussed counter-terrorism cooperation,” Swarup said.

Modi also said a recent meeting of the India-UK joint group on counter-terrorism was very useful. He called for more collaboration in cyber security and intelligence-sharing and information gathering, Swarup added.
