New Delhi: A 17-year-old girl was shot dead in a Mercedes car just outside her home in Delhi's Najafgarh last evening as her mother, waiting for her, watched. Her missing friend is a suspect.
The girl had gone with two friends for lunch and was being dropped off by the boys after some shopping. Her mother, anxious that she was getting late, called her around 7.30 pm. That was the last that mother and daughter spoke.
While the girl, a resident of Najafgarh, knew Shubham, it was the first time she was meeting Yogesh, a friend of Shubham’s.
Around 7pm, the girl’s mother began calling her, asking her to come return soon. At around 9 pm, when the group was near the girl’s house, Yogesh reportedly got out of the car to relieve himself.
The girl's mother has told the police that she saw the car arriving and, as she waited, one of the friends came out, leaving her daughter inside with the other boy. She suddenly heard a gunshot.
When she rushed to the car, she saw her daughter lying in blood. The boy who was with ran away.
The girl was taken to a local hospital in Dwarka where she was declared brought dead. Shubham had allegedly fired at the girl with Yogesh’s licensed pistol.
“We have recovered the car and the pistol. We have taken the statements of the eyewitnesses and investigation in on. A case of murder is registered at Najafgarh police station. Efforts are on to nab Shubham,” said deputy commissioner of police (southwest) Surender Kumar.
