UP Yadavas Drama: Ramgopal declares Akhilesh SP chief, gets expelled by Mulayam New Delhi: Hours after he declared Akhilesh Yadav as the new national president of the Samajwadi Party at a special “national convention”, SP general secretary Ramgopal Yadav was on Sunday expelled from the party by supremo Mulayam Singh. This is Ramgopal’s second expulsion in three days.

The supremo has termed the national convention here as “unconstitutional” and dismissed the proposals passed in it as “illegal.”

Mulayam announced the decision after a meeting of the party’s central parliamentary board here, which was attended by Shivpal Yadav.

The letter issued after the meeting clearly blamed Ramgopal Yadav for “conspiring” to harm the party and help by the BJP to save his skin from the CBI Mulayam has also convened a national convention of the party on January 5 here.

Earlier in the day before the convention commenced, Mulayam Singh had issued a warning to party members against attending the programme, saying it was in total violation of the party’s constitution, against party discipline and organised with the intention of harming the party. Action will be taken against those attending it or even issuing signatures on any proposal supporting it, the supremo had said in a warning letter.
'Political coup'

In what is being termed as a political coup in the ruling SP, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav was on Sunday declared the new party national president by a special “national convention” led by his uncle Ramgopal Yadav at the Jnaeshwar Mishra Park. Mulayam Singh was designated the post of margdarshak or patron, the convention proposed.

The convention also displaced Shivpal Yadav, Akhilesh’s bête noire, from the post of State president, while expelling Amar Singh, Mulayam-aide who has been held responsible by the Akhilesh camp for scripting the internal feud. Dharmendra Yadav, the MP from Baduan and a cousin of Akhilesh, could be declared the new State president.

In a clear shift of the balance of power in the party, top SP leaders from the old guard, including Reoti Raman Singh and vice-president Kironmoy Nanda, attended the meet and extended support to Akhilesh.

Soon after being proposed as the national president of the party, Akhilesh Yadav said his respect for his father was more than ever and that he would stand against those conspiring against the party.

“Those who conspired against the party, damaged it and also posed problems before the national president...should know that my respect for the national president (Mulayam Singh) will be more than before,” the chief minister said.

”...People might raise questions and level allegations but I said this before and say it again that as his son if there is any conspiracy against the party and him it is my duty to stand against them”, he said.

“I had said that I was ready to step down as state unit president earlier too ...he had made me the CM and gave me a chance to work...”, he said .

The chief minister said, “All want that SP comes back to power but there are some who do not want this... Netaji would be most elated if the party forms the next government...I have been given the responsibility to make the next government on one more time’

Hinting that there were powers in the party who were guiding the party chief to take decisions against him, Yadav said, “Netaji’s respect and position is supreme for us ...these three-four months are very important....don’t know who all can come together and force certain decisions.
