Marathi film producer Atul Tapkir commits suicide, last Facebook post claims he was depressed

Marathi fim producer Atul Tapkir allegedly committed suicide on Sunday a city hotel. He posted a message on Facebook before ending his life, citing financial loss in filmmaking and family dispute as reason for his suicide.
Tapkir had produced a Marathi movie - Dhol -Tashe , which was released two years ago. The film was appreciated because of its political plot.
The producer was staying in a hotel, located on busy Karve road. The hotel staff called the police after he did not open the door this morning. Police broke down the door to find his found lying on the bed. Preliminary investigation indicates that Tapkir committed suicide by consuming poison. His body has been sent for postmortem to Sassoon General Hospital.
Tapkir was staying away from his family for the past six months. He had checked into the hotel for two days. His Facebook post also mentioned that he was depressed because of financial loss and strained relationship with his wife after producing the film.
He alleged that his wife and brothers-in-law were torturing him after he suffered the financial loss. He had a quarrel with his wife few days back over phone when he was drunk, the Facebook post said.
Despite the apparent suicide, Deccan Gymkhana police have recorded accidental death for now. Police said investigation will proceed after receipt of the postmortem report.
