Delhi woke up to a pleasant Saturday morning New Delhi: After a day of traffic snarls following continuous pitter-patter, Delhi woke up to a pleasantSaturday morning. Light to moderate showers throughout the night brought the temperature down a few notches. The fresh spell of rain brought relief after two weeks of muggy weather. The maximum temperature on Friday was recorded at 27.5 degrees Celsius, seven notches below the season's average, while the minimum temperature settled at 26.5 degree Celsius. According to Met officials, there is more rain in store over the weekend.

Delhi receives most of its rain in July and August. But this time these two months were mostly dry, said a met official.

The current weather is due to low pressure system coming from south-west Uttar Pradesh merging with western disturbance from Himachal in Uttarakhand. Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh will receive good rainfall over the weekend. Delhi weather will be soothing," said Mahesh Palawat, director of private weather forecasting agency Skymet.

However, commuters had a tough time yesterday as traffic came to a halt in many parts of the national capital due to massive waterlogging. Motorists remained stuck in jams for hours at many points. The ITO was severely affected as people were stuck in traffic snarls from afternoon till evening. Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg and the area around the India Gate were also affected.

In Old Delhi, the situation was especially bad around Chandni Chowk, the Red Fort and Old Delhi Railway Station areas. Trans-Yamuna areas like Seelampur, Wazirabad, Shahdara, Zaffrabad, Yamuna Vihar also witnessed long jams.

The Delhi Traffic Police's Twitter handle continuously posted updates about the traffic situation.
