Latvian prime minister Māris Kučinskis on India visit, attends 'World Food India 2017' New Delhi: Prime Minister of Republic of Latvia, Māris Kučinskis, is visiting India from 2-6 November 2017. He is accompanied by senior officials of his Government and a business delegation. The visit of PM Kučinskis marks Latvia’s participation in the "World Food India 2017”, New Delhi, a premier event showcasing opportunities in food processing sector in India.

India-Latvia relations are characterised by regular exchanges of visits. Coinciding with the 25th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Latvia, the visit of PM Kučinskis represents a historic milestone in India-Latvia relations.

PM Kučinskis met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi yesterday. The two Leaders held discussions on various aspects of bilateral ties as well as important regional and global issues of mutual interest. The two Leaders focused on building closer cooperation in the areas of trade & investment, food processing, and culture among others. India’s economic ties with Latvia have strengthened in recent years with growing awareness about the prospects in food processing sector as well as other opportunities in the infrastructure sector. During the visit of PM Kučinskis, the Protocol amending and supplementing the Agreement between India and Latvia relating to Air Services was signed.

PM Kučinskis called on the President of India Kovind in New Delhi yesterday.

PM Kučinskis attended the inaugural session of World Food India 2017 on 3 November and delivered his remarks at the event. A 16-member business delegation from 7 Latvian companies is participating in Wood Food India 2017. Latvian companies exhibiting at this prestigious event represent sectors such as dairy, fish processing, confectioneries and mineral & drinking water.

PM Kučinskis will be visiting Mumbai from 4-6 November where he will inaugurate the Honorary Consulate of Latvia in Mumbai and will participate at Latvia-India Transport and Logistics Conference titled ‘Latvia: India’s Gateway to Europe and CIS countries’.

In Mumbai, PM Kučinskis is expected to meet with the Governor of Maharashtra.
