Army foils infiltration bid along LoC in Karen Sector, six militants killed Srinagar: Six militants were killed on Sunday as the Army foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir.

An infiltration bid has been eliminated along the LoC in Karen Sector (Kupwara district), a defence spokesman said here.

He said six militants attempting to infiltrate into this side of the LoC have been killed. The operation is in progress, the spokesman said.

Troops noticed suspicious movement along the LoC in Keran sector in Kupwara district of north Kashmir and challenged the infiltrators, an Army official said.

Defence Ministry spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said the militants attempted to breach the Line of Control (LoC), triggering a gun battle.

He said the troops were now engaged in a search operation.

The slain militants were yet to be identified.

Security forces have announced a conditional ceasefire in Jammu and Kashmir during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan but made it clear that militants indulging in violence won't be spared.

On Wednesday Army also foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Macchil sector of Jammu and Kashmir, killing three militants.

Troops noticed suspicious movement along the LoC in Macchil sector in Kupwara district and challenged the infiltrators, an army official said.

Three militants were killed in the ensuing gunfight, he said, adding search operations were on in the area.

With this operation, the total number of infiltrating militants killed over the last three days in various sectors has gone up to 13.

A defence spokesman had on Thursday said that multiple attempts made by the Pakistan Army to push armed infiltrators across the LoC were foiled by the troops at Machhil and Naugam sectors in Kupwara district, Gurez in Bandipora district and Uri in Baramulla, resulting in the killing of seven militants.

All the four infiltration bids were aided by the Pakistani forces who provided active support, including cover fire using heavy calibre artillery, the Army’s Northern Command had said in a statement on Thursday.

According to the Army, it has successfully foiled seven infiltration attempts in less than a fortnight in north Kashmir. Three of the attempts were scuttled in Uri sector alone.

On 26 May, Army killed two Pakistani Border Action Team (BAT) members who tried to infiltrate into Uri sector in Baramulla district to carry out an attack on the soldiers.

Six more militants were killed in the same sector the next day when they attempted to sneak into the valley from across the border. In the current year, Army foiled 23 infiltration attempts killing 39 armed intruders along the LoC.
