Delhi: At her roadshow in Lucknow today, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was riding on top of a bus, and perhaps, also on the political legacy of her grandmother Indira Gandhi.
Priyanka Gandhi has a striking resemblance to the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and the Congress has made sure to exploit the gene factor.
"The harder we fall, the stronger we rise, this is what I learnt from Indira Gandhi," Priyanka Gandhi had once said.
While Indira Gandhi was the first female prime minister of India, Priyanka Gandhi too has been vocal about women empowerment. "I too am a sister, mother, daughter and a wife, but that's not our identity. We are women, that is our identity," were Priyanka Gandhi's words.
And like Indira Gandhi took over from her father Jawarharlal Nehru and on many occasions proved the Grand Old Party's prowess in governance, Priyanka Gandhi despite being reluctant of joining politics, defended the Congress.
"The one thing my family has taught me is that there is nothing more important than the people of this country," said Priyanka Gandhi.
While political analysts have called Priyanka Gandhi's induction as Congress's "brahmastra", political opponents have said the move exemplifies Rahul Gandhi's failure.
But even the BJP cannot deny Priyanka Gandhi's uncanny similarities with Indira Gandhi. BJP Lok Sabha MP Ashwini Kumar said that Priyanka Gandhi is the new Indira Gandhi that India, UP was waiting for.
Not just Congress workers, but the common people affirmed this. On January 23, when Priyanka Gandhi was appointed the general secretary of Uttar Pradesh East, Twitterati pointed out the alikeness.
