AAP To Contest Uttar Pradesh Polls In 2022, Announces Kejriwal UP Elections: The Aam Aadmi Party will contest the legislative assembly elections of Uttar Pradesh which are slated to be held in the year 2022, party's national convener and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal announced on Tuesday. Making the huge electoral announcement, Kejriwal said that the development of Uttar Pradesh has been held back by dirty politics and corrupt leaders there.

Why people from UP should have to look at Delhi for health services and education. Mohalla clinics, free electricity, water, good education and health facilities can also be provided in the state," said Kejriwal.

He asserted that the AAP would instill honest intentions, and prove that governance is not restricted by resources.

The crucial legislative assembly elections in the politically volatile state of Uttar Pradesh is slated to take place  in the month of February or March 2022 to elect 403 members of the state assembly. The term of current assembly elected in 2017 will expire on 14 March 2022.

Aam Aadmi Party, spearheaded by Kejriwal and other senior party leaders contested the Lok Sabha elections but faced a major rout. The party had contested on 4 out of 80 Parliamentray seats in the state but lost each one: Saharanpur, Aligarh, Allahabad and Gautam Budh Nagar.

The party which has its presence in Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana, is quite young in Uttar Pradesh's political landscape and will have to compete against old players like Congress, BJP, BSP and SP. AAP is trying to expand its reach in states adjoining New Delhi, where it has a strong hold.
