Maharashtra Govt Moves Supreme Court Challenging Bombay HC

Mumbai: Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra government on Tuesday moved the Supreme Court challenging an order of CBI probe against former Home Minister Anil Deshmuk by the Bombay High Court. The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government move the apex court in connection with Deshmukh's alleged involvement in corruption, levelled by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh. 

Deshmukh resigned as Maharashtra Home Minister hours after the Bombay HC on Monday asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe the corruption allegations levelled against him.

Meanwhile, the decison to move the top court was announced by newly appointed Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse-Patil.

While speaking to mediapersons, Walse-Patil had assured that the state government will extend full cooperation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into its probe on the accusations levelled by former Mumbai Commissioner. 

The Bombay High Court has ordered CBI to conduct a 'preliminary probe' into Singh's allegations against Deshmukh and submit its report within 15 days. The decision by Bombay HC will reportedly be challenged by Deshmukh independently in the apex court. However, the is no update regarding the same.
