New Delhi: At least 10,000 to 15,000 international terrorists, predominantly Pakistanis, were in Afghanistan as part of a full-scale invasion, planned and supported by Islamabad, President Ashraf Ghani had informed his US counterpart Joe Biden during their last phone call before the Taliban seized control of the country.
“Mr President, we are facing a full-scale invasion, composed of Taliban, full Pakistani planning and logistical support, and at least 10-15,000 international terrorists, predominantly Pakistanis thrown into this, so that dimension needs to be taken account of,” Ghani told Biden, Reuters reported.
The US President during the conversation offered aid if Ghani could project he had a plan to control the situation in Afghanistan.
The two spoke for around 14 minutes on July 23. Ghani later on August 15 fled the presidential palace and the Taliban took control of Kabul.
Thousands of Afghans have fled the country since then.
Over 100 people, including 13 US troops, were killed after two suicide bombers struck a packed crowd outside the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul earlier on August 26.
