Here’s a food guide of some of the best cities across the world which just can’t be missed:

1. Mexico City, Mexico

Mexican food, like Mexican culture, is colourful and rich in flavour. Quesadillas, Tacos, Tamales, Enchiladas, Gorditas, are examples of the delicious mestizo cuisine. You can find these dishes in first class restaurants, outdoor markets or food stalls, since the delights of Mexico City are available for all budgets. The Biko is a famous food joint whose menu is described as sumptuous with surprises. The cotton foie-gras is its specialty which is made from local produce, coaxed for maximum flavour.

The common myth that the British can’t cook is completely false. From eating in a pub to choosing a trendy restaurant, London doesn’t lack places to put hunger away. You can find brilliant tapas, high-end French food, the best pizza and so many bakeries. Fergus Henderson’s St. John is the best restaurant in town known for exquisitely plain food. The bone marrow salad is what defines this place: chunks of shin, roasted, served with chopped up parsley and sourdough.

3. Rome, Italy

It’s said that it’s hard to eat poorly in Rome. It is the birthplace of pasta and the wine culture is at the top of its class. The typical Roman food has its roots in the past and reflects old traditions in most of its offerings. The Pagliaccio is a very popular modern restaurant in the heart of Renaissance Rome. The dishes served here are a harmony of spices, herbs and surprises. The “deconstructed” egg dish and the grilled Tuscan pork are its specialties.

4. India

One city is not enough to represent the taste of India! With over a thousand yummy dishes served here, here is a list of the top five:

Mumbai – The batata vada coupled with cutting chai is world famous.

Delhi – The Parathe Wali Gali in Chandni Chowk serves the best parathas and is always crowded.

Kolkata – Mishthi Doi (sweet curd) and roshogula sweets are to die for.

Kerala – Along with its locational beauty, Kerala serves the best South India cuisine including Dosa, Sambhar and Rasam.

5. Tokyo, Japan

For fish lovers, Tokyo is heaven. A highlight of any visit to Tokyo is a 5am tour of the Tsukiji fish market to observe the auction of the most exquisite fish. In Tokyo, first bite is with the eye. The dishes are not just served, but beautifully presented on the plate. The Takazawa restaurant is intimate and theatrical and, for some, transcendental. The highlight is a dish simply named as Sea, a rock-pool selection of percebes barnacles, a tiny pink crab, clams in fish sauce and strands of crunchy seaweed, on a light scattering of “sand” made from powdered shrimp.

6. Paris, France

From refined flavours and delicate textures with bright colours, any palate falls in love with the gastronomy of Paris. The variety and culinary richness is such, that it is almost impossible to resist the exquisite cuisine of Paris. From street cafes to dining in style, in Paris you’d find the finest things in life. The Procope restaurant is one of the oldest and most famous places for traditional dishes. The entrée is lighter than in other destinations and usually consists of fresh salads, and soups. The main dish, known as plat de résistance, is based on meat and rice.

7. Sydney, Australia

Sydney is one of the world’s great dining destinations at any time of year, but summer takes the experience to another level. You can dine by the harbor in five-star style, enjoy a traditional pub bursting with history or find sublime Sydney views at a cool rooftop bar. The Sails restaurant located at the Lavender Bay has a postcard view of the Sydney Opera House. The menu offers what can be described as “refined modern Australian food”, with an emphasis on fresh seafood.

The list is never ending. Barcelona, Bangkok, New York, Portland, Shanghai, you just cannot stop! A successful trip is one that pleases all the senses, one where your culinary experience stays in your memory for years to come.
