Vishwashanti Sangeet Kala Academy launches gurukul system

Vishwashanti Sangeet Kala Academy launches gurukul system Mumbai: Vishwashanti Sangeet Kala Academy, Pune, on Friday announced that launch of a gurukul system under the mentorship of eminent musicians in its music academy.

Making the announcement, Prof. Dr Vishwanath. D. Karad, founder of the Vishwashanti Sangeet Kala Academy, said that the academy was formed on the concept of the traditional Indian learning culture of ‘Guru and Disciples’. Built over a vast area of 70,000 sq feet, the academy provides ample space for learning. “There are seven musical departments and one dance in the academy and each will be under the master guru,” Dr. Karad said.

The academy which was started three years ago now intends to provide a platform for aspiring classical musicians from across the country to learn the traditional form of Indian music. Dr.Karad’s vision behind this event is to make India’s biggest and one of its kinds Indian Classical music institute. The academy will provide free education to the aspiring musicians, whose talent goes unnoticed due to lack of training facilities, due to financial problems. The facilities will help the musicians to excel, and get the right training and knowledge to scale different heights in the Indian classical music field.

The students only need to pay for their hostel and mess. The minimum age limit will be nine and maximum will be 35. Speaking on the launch, director of academy Surendra Mohite, said, “Teaching will be qualitative, not quantitative. There is no specific durations and until we get the right students, the selection procedure will be going on. We will accept maximum 15 students for each specialisation.”

Present at the event, Lata Mangeshkar, the chairperson of the academy, said, “The gurukul is a beautiful place and I believe when the gurus reach there, their presence and the.music will make it more beautiful.”

Eminent musicians like Pt. Dr N Rajam, Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar, Pt. Hridaynath Mangeshkar, Pt. Suresh Talwalkar, Pta. Shama Bhate, Pt. Yogesh Samsi, Pta. Devaki Pandit and Prof. Dr Vishwanath Karad will be teaching at the gurukul for six days in a month.

In addition, their world-renowned disciples are will be taking the role trainers in the academy. Present at the launch, Vidushi Dr. N. Rajam said, “ I am happy that the guru shishya ritual which is now not there in other musical universities is brought back by Vishwashanti Sangeet Kala Academy.”

The academy opened it’s website mitvsf.com for the applicants on Friday. The applicants will be selected by the nine eminent musicians after they go through a video that prospective students need to submit.
