Lucknow Commissionerate to rope in IIM-Indore to replicate Indore cleanliness model in Lucknow city
Memorandum of Understanding to be signed between Indian Institute of Management, Indore and the Lucknow Commissionerate.Correspondent : The Lucknow Commisionerate is planning for improvement of cleanliness and effective traffic management of the city based on the successful Indore model. IIM, Indore and Lucknow Commisionerate will sign a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate for this initiative, soon. Initial round of discussions have been successful and the parties have agreed to come together for its implementation.

As per the Commissioner, Mukesh Meshram (IAS): IIM Indore will partner to design and conduct training programs for the officials and staff, to equip them for improvement of cleanliness and traffic management in the City. It will also conduct an in-depth evaluation of the current situation and suggest effective measures to level up to the required standards.

With this collaboration, it is expected that the experiences of successful implementation of a similar scale in Indore would benefit the efforts of the Commissionerate.

The collaboration includes cooperation on issues of cleanliness, traffic management and other tasks related to the development of the Lucknow Smart City project. Director of IIM Indore Professor Himanshu Rai, has taught at IIM Lucknow as well and has been part of many initiatives of the UP Government.

Under his leadership, team of experts from IIM Indore have successfully developed and implemented an effective traffic management plan and conducted specialised training for officials for efficiency and capacity development. With the training  and analytical study, the traffic system of Indore has been improved. Prof. Raj Hans Mishra and Prof. Saurabh Chandra were the part of team.

It is to be noted that Indore has claimed the title of the cleanest city consecutively for 3 years in cleanliness survey (Swacchta Sarvekshan). It has developed widely cited and studied model of implementation of cleanliness initiatives. With door to door waste collection, treatment plants, open defecation and other noteworthy developments, it is one of the most rivers cities in terms of cleanliness and public sanitation.
