Rewards pour in for Team India

New Delhi: The rewards for the victorious India team continued to pour in with various state governments along with BCCI announced cash rewards and many other sops.

The Delhi government Sunday announced cash rewards for Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and four Delhi players in the World Cup winning squad -- Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Ashish Nehra and Virat Kohli.

A statement from the government said: "Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has announced reward of Rs.2 crore for captain M.S. Dhoni, and Rs.1 crore each for Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Ashish Nehra, and Virat Kohli."

"The rewards have been announced in view of their outstanding performance in the entire World Cup tournament," added the statement.

Dikshit had earlier said in her message to the team: "Our players have displayed their outstanding performance and supremacy in the game. This is a historic moment after 28 years.

"Delhiites should join all countrymen in celebrating this moment of great joy and happiness," she added.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank today announced to give a residential plot or a house to Indian Cricket captain M S Dhoni and Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar.

The Chief Minister announced that Dhoni and Tendulkar would be given a residential plot or a house, in the picturesque town of Mussoorie of Uttarakhand, said a government spokesman.

Nishank has also decided to name a sports stadium proposed in Dehra Dun after Dhoni, he added.

On the other hand, the Uttar Pradesh government also announced to felicitate Indian cricketers Suresh Raina and Piyush Chawla with Kanshiram International Sports award after the team's historic victory in the World Cup last night.

"By helping the Indian team in reaching the final match and making important contributions in winning the World Cup, these two players have done the state proud," Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati said here.

She said that the decision to felicitate the two would not only promote Raina and Chawla to play with more dedication in the future but would also motivate other players to put in extra efforts.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already announced a Rs 1 crore award to each member of the victorious Indian team.
