UP assembly elections 2017: In 5th phase 57.36 per cent voter turnout Lucknow: Amid tight security, the voting for the 51 assembly constituencies, spread across 11 districts of Uttar Pradesh, began on Monday at 7 am.

The districts going to polls in this phase include, Ayodhya, Balrampur, Gonda, Faizabad, Ambedkar Nagar, Bahraich, Shravasti, Basti, Siddharth Nagar, Sant Kabir Nagar, Amethi and Sultanpur.

The polling personnel and security forces have reached their respective polling stations to conduct the voting.

The voting for Uttar Pradesh that began on February 11, with the first phase, will end on March 8 with the seventh phase. The counting of votes for the state will take place on March 11.

06: 20 pm: UP Chief Electoral Officer T Venkatesh said voting ended by and large peacefully in 51 assembly seats.

06: 15 pm: Over 57 per cent voting was recorded till 5 pm in the fifth phase of the ongoing UP elections, ANI reports.

06:00 pm: Addressing a joint rally with Akhilesh Yadav, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi launched a fresh attack on PM Modi, claiming that the latter starts to spread hatred once he gets nervous. It is ingrained in his DNA, Rahul added.

04: 05 pm: Around 52 per cent of voter turnout was recorded till 4 pm during the fifth phase.

03: 50 pm: 49.19 per cent voting was recorded in the fifth phase of the UP assembly elections till 3 pm, ANI reported.

03:00 pm: Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had dared the Samajwadi Party and Congress alliance to do whatever possible to defeat BJP but urged them not to “ruin the future” of Uttar Pradesh. He had said this during an election meeting in Mau.

02: 45 pm: Addressing an election rally in Deoria, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that the latter did not utter a single word when he approached him asking to waive off farmers’ loans.

01.35 pm: Voter turnout reaches 38.72 per cent till 1 pm

11.30 am: 27 per cent voting in Uttar Pradesh till 11 am

11.05 am: An estimated 12 to 13 per cent of voters turned out to exercise their franchise till 10 AM

09.35 am: 10.77% voting in Uttar Pradesh fifth phase assembly elections till 9 am
