Mumbai: Ali Asgar, who entertained the television audience with his character of Naani on The Kapil Sharma Show, left many hearts broken after he decided to leave the comedy show. Even as controversies swirled around the show and its main characters leaving host Kapil, Ali chose to keep mum and refused to talk to the media about his exit.
However, speculations were rife that the comedian-actor left the show to support Sunil Grover after the infamous mid-air fight between Sunil Grover and Kapil Sharma. Now that Ali is all set to feature in a special episode, Supernight With Tubelight starring Salman Khan, and has also bagged a show with Sunil Grover and Krushna Abhishek, he spoke to the media for the first time about him quitting the show.
Asked whether he has any grudges against Kapil, Ali said: “Why should I have any grudges against him? We only had professional creative differences with each other. I have nothing personal against him. I learned a lot from Kapil in terms of timing. We had some good memories on the show.”
When Ali was asked for a reason for leaving the Kapil Sharma Show, the actor said, “It is unfortunate. Whatever happened was not right and should not have happened. But sometimes you come at a position where you have to take a decision. I miss the show, I definitely do. I miss that stage, my team and that group of people. But there came a situation where I thought professionally there was no growth for me. I left the show on creative differences. My character became stagnant and there was no scope for its improvement. So, I took a step back.”
So does this mean that Ali didn’t quit the show because of Kapil’s rude behaviour? Ali puts it down to creative differences. “We worked there for the longest period of time, but after a certain point, there was a time when I felt that I should move from the show because I had creative differences with Kapil and his team. My character wasn’t going anywhere and it was becoming stagnant and I felt there was no scope for creative improvement,” Ali added.
Ali will next be seen alongside Sunil on a new show on Sony Entertainment Television. Bollywood superstar Salman Khan appeared on one of the episodes of the show to promote his forthcoming film “Tubelight”.
“My next show is not creatively locked yet, there is still time, but we are working on it and if it happens people will be able to see all of us again on small screen,” he said. Talking about Supernight with Tubelight, he said, “Salman and Sohail Khan did a lot of fun on the show. The gigs were good and I hope the audience will have a great time watching it.”
Talking about his dubbing experience in Despicable Me 3, Ali said: “Acting and dubbing both are difficult. I am dubbing for the animated series for the first time. I did dubbing for this for almost seven days. I am dubbing in Punjabi accent in this series so it was difficult for me to dub in typical animated Punjabi voice, but I really had fun working on it because for an actor it’s a great exercise.” It also came as a welcome change for him, “I am doing dubbing for men’s voice after long time because for almost 4 years, I was creating voice of female characters in my previous shows so, I really hope that audience like my efforts.”
