Lok Sabha Adjourned Sine Die: Speaker Om Birla Urges All To Encourage Discussion

New DelhiExpressing his disappointment over the Lok Sabha not running smoothly during the Monsoon Session of Parliament, Speaker Om Birla on Wednesday urged the leaders of all political parties to encourage discussion and dialogue in the Lower House in future.

Reaching out to the leaders of all political parties, the Lok Sabha Speaker emphasized that discussion and dialogue can only lead to public welfare.

Birla made these remarks after the leaders of several opposition parties, including the Congress, Trinamool Congress (TMC), Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) and Biju Janata Dal, met him at his chamber here after the House was adjourned sine die (for an indefinite period).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah also met Birla at his chamber here.

The Lok Sabha was earlier in the day adjourned sine die, thereby bringing an end to the month-long Monsoon Session.

The Monsoon Session, which began on July 19, was slated to go on till August 13.

This comes as the opposition has accused the ruling dispensation at the Centre of not holding discussions on important issues in the Lok Sabha.
