T20 World Cup 2016: Everything you need to know New Delhi: The ICC World Twenty20 2016 is the Twenty20 International cricket tournament to be held in India from March 8 to April 3, 2016.

It will be the sixth edition of ICC World Twenty20 and India will be hosting this tournament for the first time.

As many as 58 tournaments 35 men's matches and 23 women's matches to be played at eight venues.

The men's event will carry a total prize money of 5.6 million USD, which is an 86 percent increase from the 2014 tournament. The total prize money for the women's event is 400,000 USD, which is a 122 percent increase from the Bangladesh event.

Here's everything you need to know about the ICC T20 World cup 2016:

Men's event format: A total of eight sides in two groups of four will feature in the first round matches with the group winners joining eight sides in the Super 10 stage (two groups of five teams). The top two sides from both the Super 10 Groups will then qualify for the semi-finals.

Women's event format: The 10 sides will be divided into two groups and the top two sides from each group will progress to the semi-finals.

Venues: Seven Indian cities will be hosting matches at the tournament, with the final match to be played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Other host cities include Bengaluru, Dharamshala, Mohali, Mumbai, Nagpur and New Delhi. New Delhi and Mumbai will be staging semi-finals on March 30 and 31, respectively.

Teams: The 2016 World Twenty20 will feature 16 teams. Ten teams will be qualified automatically through their status as full members of the International Cricket Council, while another six will be qualified through the 2015 World Twenty20 Qualifier.

The tournament will be featuring 16 teams for the second time. Here is the list of participating countries:

Qualifiers: Scotland, Ireland, Hong Kong, Netherlands, Afghanistan, Oman.

Oman is the only team making its tournament debut.

In the second round, the group winners will join full members - Australia, England, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies and host - India in the Super 10 stage, which will be played alongside the womenâ??s event from March 15 to 28.
