Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh is on the run, 4 aides flown to Assam after arrest New Delhi: Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh is still on the run from the Punjab police and a search is on to trace him, officials have said.

A massive operation has been launched to catch Amritpal Singh who, sources say, was last seen speeding away on a motorcycle last evening in Jalandhar.

Four suspected close aides of Punjab’s pro-Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh have been brought to Assam's Dibrugarh in a special aircraft on Sunday morning.

SP Tejbir Singh Hundal led the team of Panjab Police which brought the four to Assam. They were taken to Jorhat first and later brought to Dibrugarh, officials said.

Tejbir Singh Hundal told the media that they will reveal the names of the four later. According to the local police, they have been kept inside the Dibrugarh Central Jail.

The deputy commissioner of Dibrugarh district, Biswajit Pegu, confirmed to the media that four persons, who were arrested in Panjab initially, have been brought to the district. But no further details were revealed.

The Punjab police have beefed up security in the state to arrest Khalistani sympathiser Amritpal Singh who is currently on the run.

On Saturday, the Punjab government launched a major crackdown against Waris Punjab De chief. The cops have arrested 78 members of an outfit headed by him.

The police action came a day ahead of the start of Amritpal Singh's 'Khalsa Wahir' - a religious procession - which was to start from Muktsar district.

Security has been tightened at many places in Punjab with intensive vehicle checking.

Amritsar rural SSP Satinder Singh on Sunday informed that they arrested seven people yesterday in the case linked to Khalistani leader AMritpal Singh. And they have registered an FIR against Amritpal and his aides. "Six illegal 12-bore weapons have been recovered from them," he added.

Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj on Sunday said that the Punjab Police is doing its job and will be able to complete the search for fugitive Amritpal Singh.

Jalandhar Police Commissioner Kuldeep Singh Chahal said that a search operation is underway to nab 'Waris Punjab De' chief Amritpal Singh.

Security has been beefed up on Himachal Pradesh borders with Punjab in view of a crackdown against Khalistan supporter Amritpal Singh. The Una Police has barricaded several places and deployed its personnel in heavy numbers at Bathari, Marwari, Santoshgarh, and Mehatpur on the Himachal-Punjab border.

The crackdown comes a month after Amritpal Singh and his supporters broke into a police station with swords and guns for the release of one of his aides. Six police officials were injured in the clash.

The Punjab government had faced massive flak for the law and order situation in the state after the incident.

Amritpal Singh leads "Waris Punjab De", a radical organisation started by actor and activist Deep Sidhu, who died in a road accident in February last year.

Amritpal Singh, who is often seen escorted by armed supporters, had been openly making statements about declaring secession from India and forming Khalistan. Officials said Amritpal Singh has been maintaining close links with Pakistani intelligence agency ISI and terrorist groups based in foreign countries.
